Was your entering Damascus, ash-Shām, with your father due to persecution?

Was your entering Damascus, ash-Shām, with your father due to persecution?

Al-Ḥuwaynī: All right. The story of your entering Damascus, ash-Shām, with your father, was it due to persecution, for example, or what?

The Shaykh: There was no persecution at all. But there were signs in the atmosphere, because as soon as things became stable for him [Aḥmad Zog], he began imposing laws on the people, on women regarding their dress(1), and he began imposing his grip upon the police and the army.

So it was an omen of evil, in his [Albānī's father] view... may Allāh have mercy on him. For that reason, he decided to take my family to Damascus, to ash-Shām in general, and to Damascus in particular, because of the many aḥādīth he used to read that had been reported regarding ash-Shām in general and Damascus in particular.

As is known, or as later became clear, some of these aḥādīth are weak, some are authentic, some are ḥasan (sound), and some made up. But the general idea is sound, and it had taken firm hold of him, may Allāh have mercy on him.

So he decided to migrate when he saw those warning signs. That was the reason for the migration. There was no direct pressure.

Yes.

Reflection: Look at the barakah in his father's decision to migrate and save his deen and his family's deen, Allāh gifted him with al-Albānī. That's immense!

Everyone who benefited from Al-Albānī was able to do so because Allāh decreed this man deciding to migrate to Damascus.

The story of Ibn Taymiyyah is similar!

Ibn Taymiyyah's family left Ḥarrān when he was a child because of the Mongol/Tatar threat, and they settled in Damascus.
